The latest video game console by Nintendo was the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch Lite. The Nintendo Switch took on an entirely new approach from the PS4 and Xbox One which is why it was immediately successful. The console allowed users to play using their TV through docked mode while they could also ‘switch’ it into a handheld console.
This allowed players to play some of the best video games of the generation, such as Super Mario: Odyssey, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and more, while away from home.
With the upcoming release of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, the Nintendo Switch will feel awfully outdated, which is why Nintendo might be working on a new console. There have been some very strong rumors that Nintendo is working on a Nintendo Switch 2.
What Should You Expect From This Rumored Video Game Console?
Some of these rumors were presented by very reliable sources, which is why fans are very excited. The rumored specs and details of the console are also quite interesting, which is why fans are eagerly anticipating its release. Here’s every major detail that’s been rumored about the Nintendo Switch 2 that Nintendo is supposedly working on:
Graphics and Display
According to reports, players can expect a big boost in terms of both graphics and display on the Nintendo Switch 2. The built-in display of the Switch 2 will reportedly be capable of displaying 1080p. This is a good improvement when compared to the 720p display of the current built-in screen of the Nintendo Switch.
The docked version of the new Nintendo console will be capable of supporting 4K output. This is a huge boost when you compare it to the 1080p output of the original Nintendo Switch. The 4K display output will greatly improve the experience and will make it much more attractive.
We can only assume the Nintendo Switch 2’s specs since there hasn’t been an official announcement yet. All we know for sure is that the console’s specs will have too much greater than the current Nintendo Switch’s, especially if Nintendo is looking to compete with Sony and Microsoft.
It’s safe to assume that the Nintendo Switch 2 could cost a lot more than its predecessor. The Nintendo Switch is valued at $299 while the Switch Lite is worth $199. It would be fair to expect a price tag of $399 from the rumored Switch 2 provided that it will likely be a huge improvement on the original Nintendo Switch.
Name and Release Date
Most people are using Nintendo Switch 2 to refer to Nintendo’s rumored new console, however, this isn't the official name for the gaming system. The rumors for the console started thanks to the five identified code names for Nintendo Switch models.
These code names are Icosa, Iowa, Hoag, Copper, and Calcio. Icosa was the code name for the original Nintendo Switch while Iowa was the Switch with improved battery life.
Hoag on the other hand was the code name used to refer to the Switch Lite. Copper and Calcio are the only two models that have not been announced or released. It is suspected that either one of these could be the Nintendo Switch 2 or Pro.
The release date for the Nintendo Switch 2 will probably be set in 2021. Nintendo confirmed not that long ago that there would be no new Nintendo console coming in 2020. This is likely due to the competition presented by the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. This ultimately means that Nintendo users can hope for a 2021 release date at the best.
