Compare Sony's PlayStation 4 To The New PlayStation 5 Video Game Console

In Gaming

The PlayStation 4 is currently one of the most advanced gaming consoles available in the market. However, Sony’s upcoming video game console known as the PS5 is coming in Holiday 2020 to take its place. As you would expect, the PlayStation 5 is better from the PlayStation 4 in almost every way possible.

The console will feature improved visuals, improved loading times, a new design, and much more. But exactly how much better is the PS5 when compared to its predecessor? Given below is a detailed comparison between Sony’s previous and new video game console so you can see the difference for yourself.

Sony PlayStation 4 vs The New PlayStation 5 Video Game Console

Graphics

The PS4 and PS5 are both powered by an AMD Radeon chip. The PS4’s GPU features 18 CUs. Because of its 18 CUs, the PS4 has a clock speed of 800MHz. This means that the console has a 1.84 teraflop GPU and can manage exactly 1.84 trillion floating-point operations with every passing second.

The PS5 on the other hand is much more improved in every aspect when it comes to graphics. The console has a GPU that is much more powerful than the PS4’s and is capable of running at 2.23 GHz, however, this speed is variable.

To put it simply, the PS5 will provide absolutely breathtaking graphics. Players can expect a much more beautiful and immersive gaming experience thanks to the PS5’s powerful GPU.

Resolution

As many players know, the PS4 is only capable of providing resolutions of up to 1080p. While this was impressive at the time of the console's release, it is considered average now thanks to the upgrades in modern technology.

Speaking of modern technology, the PS5 supports resolutions of up to 8K. This is very impressive and will make games look as realistic and attractive as possible for the time being.

Compared to the PS4’s resolution of 1080p, the PS5 is a huge upgrade in terms of resolution. Keep in mind that you’ll need to have a monitor or TV with great display capabilities in order to get the most out of the PS5.

Cooling System

While this may not be a significantly important detail in the eyes of many, some players will be more than happy to know that the PS5 will have a much more improved cooling system. The PS4’s cooling fans were awfully loud and at certain times, were annoying enough to distract people from their game.

This is especially seen with the release of newer games. For example, the PS4’s cooling fans go wild when players try to play The Last of Us Part II. Luckily this won’t be a problem with the PS5 thanks to the console’s design.

Games

Great games are to always be expected on a Sony console. since the PS1, Sony has released some great exclusive games for the PlayStation consoles. The PS4 has an amazing line-up of games, especially when you take exclusives into consideration.

It’s fair to expect the same from the PS5. Many of the games being released for the PS4 in 2020 will also be released on the PS5. The Sony event on June 11th, 2020 also confirmed some amazing games coming to the new console. Some of these games include Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon: Forbidden West, and Resident Evil: Village.

Price

The PS4 was valued at $399 at the time of its release but this price got lower and lower as time went on. No official price for the PS5 has been unveiled yet but rumors suggest that the new console could cost $499. This would be a more than fair price based on the PlayStation 5’s specs.
