Anthony Mackie’s Twisted Metal Will Air on Peacock in the United States
NBC’s streaming service Peacock has ordered the first season of PlayStation Productions’ Twisted Metal adaptation, which will star Anthony Mackie. The show, based on Sony’s car combat game, will be sliced up into 30 minute episodes, and will see the Captain America star play a character named John Doe, who’s tasked with delivering a package in a wasteland filled with trigger-happy drivers – including a certain psychotic clown.
“Twisted Metal has been a global phenomenon for more than 25 years, but it was the creative vision for this live-action adaptation, led by Michael Jonathan Smith, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick, that blew us away,” NBCUniversal Television and Streaming’s Lisa Katz said. “Also Anthony Mackie starring made it undeniable! This adrenaline-infused comedy series is in expert hands with our partners at Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, and Universal Television, and will be the perfect addition to Peacock as we continue to look for uniquely entertaining programmes.”
Sony Pictures Television Studios’ Jeff Frost and Jason Clodfelter added: “We are thrilled that our first series with our good friends at Peacock is with our amazing partners at Electric Avenue, Universal Television, and colleagues at PlayStation Productions. Michael Jonathan Smith and Rhett and Paul have ingeniously brought this high-action comedy to life and we are so fortunate to have Anthony at the centre of the show. We look forward to this incredible team blowing audiences away with this twisted and inventive concept.”
There’s no word on a target release date or any further information on its cast beyond Mackie, but we’re sure that will follow in due course. PlayStation Productions had its first hit with the Uncharted movie recently, which has taken cinemas by storm – and HBO’s upcoming The Last of Us is expected to become a sensation when it launches next year.
